MUSIC & ARTS GROUPS

These are a list of the many opportunities to participate in the arts here at First Unitarian.

CHOIR

Our Choir sings regularly at the 11:15am worship service, and rehearses Wednesday nights at 7:00pm-9:00pm. No audition is necessary. Music reading skills are very helpful but not required. Singers of all voice parts who are in high school or older are invited to give our Choir a try.

Orange Sky

Our house band, Orange Sky, is looking for talented guest instrumentalists and backup singers. If you have experience performing pop, rock, jazz, blues, or gospel music, please contact bandleader Melissa Boyack at melissaboyack@gmail.com to arrange an audition.

Orange Sky has released an EP and it can be purchased as a digital download.

Instrumentalists

If you play an instrument at an advanced level and are interested in offering special music during services, we’d love to hear from you! We’re hoping to have a diverse offering of solos and small ensembles in our worship this year.

Café Veritas Concerts

The Café Veritas volunteers, who organize the concerts, have grown into a great community of music lovers and friends. As our website puts it “we’re basically an extremely social, well fed, overly caffeinated group of people with really good taste in music.” Join us if you are interested in organizing listening room evenings and/or enjoying some great music!

More information can be found at www.cafeveritas.org . To purchase tickets, visit here.

FirstLight Players

Our drama group welcomes people who are interested in becoming part of the community of performers, artists and organizers who put on our productions. We need people who perform, design & build sets, design & construct costumes, gather and organize props, create and print programs, do publicity, refreshments, tickets, etc.

First Muse Chamber Music

The First Muse Committee hosts several chamber music concerts each year at First Unitarian, featuring Rochester’s finest classical musicians in an intimate setting, and raising funds for social justice groups sponsored by the church. Join the committee if you want to be part of producing what City newspaper refers to as the “edgy chamber music series.”

Williams Gallery Art Committee

The Gallery is normally open to visitors 10:00am-2:00pm Monday through Friday, and 4:30-7:30pm Monday through Thursday, but may be closed at times for an event. Please check with the Church Office (1-585-271-9070, 10:00am-2:00pm Monday through Friday) to confirm hours for a specific day.

The Williams Gallery Art Exhibit Committee provides opportunities for our congregation and the community to enjoy art by arranging for rotating exhibits in the David Rhys Williams Gallery.

AV Volunteers

Our AV Team is looking for tech-minded volunteers to assist our professional AV Technician in running sound, lighting, video, and projection during our services. Training will be provided. The time commitment would be one service a weekend, once or twice a month. Many hands make light work!
